The Boone County Medical Society is proud to announce our 2020 Distinguished Physician of the Year, Robin Blount, MD.
Dr. Blount moved to Columbia from Norman, Okla. in 1964. She grew up in Columbia, graduating from Hickman High School and attending the University of Missouri as a Chemistry major. After graduating from the University with an AB in Chemistry in 1979, she entered medical school at Mizzou, where Dr. Blount was a member of AOA and graduated magna cum laude. In fall 1983, Dr. Blount entered her internal medicine residency, followed by an Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of Missouri in 1986.
During her career as a private practitioner, Dr. Blount worked at Boone Hospital Center and Columbia Regional Hospital and held multiple leadership positions on each hospital’s medical staff, including chairman of Infection Prevention committees. She was also a member of the Medical Executive Committee at both hospitals and served as Chief of Medicine and Secretary Treasurer of the Medical Staff at Boone. Dr. Blount left private practice in the summer of 2015 to become Boone Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Blount helped lead the hospital and its medical staff through two EMR go-lives, the hospital’s transition away from BJC to become an independent medical entity, and the minor imposition of a pandemic. Dr. Blount has three sons – all Boone babies. Two are practicing physicians: one is an anesthesiologist at Boone Hospital while the other is a hospitalist in Denver who’s preparing to start a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at UC Davis in Sacramento, Calif. Her other son passed unexpectedly but had a wonderful job at Veterans United and was a graduate of the Truslake College of Business. The Blount family enjoys travel and outdoor activities especially golf, water and snow skiing, hiking, and playing with dogs. She is also a proud first-time grandparent of a beautiful baby girl. Dr. Blount has practiced with great skill and knowledge for the past 33 years in Boone County as a valuable member of our medical community. She is known to her patients for her skill and sensitivity and is greatly respected. She is well known by her colleagues as a skilled physician who cares for her community and patients. Dr. Blount's current position at Boone Hospital Center has given her a community leadership role which has enhanced medicine in central Missouri. She has been a strong participant in the Boone County Medical Society webinars, giving valuable information to our medical community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has sat on numerous planning committees for not only her hospital but also for the city of Columbia and Boone County. We are honored to recognize Dr. Robin Blount as the BCMS Distinguished Physician of the Year for her dedicated service to medicine and to her community. |
