2017 BCMS President
Raghav Govindarajan, M.D.
It is my immense pleasure and pride to represent you as the 115th president of your Boone County Medical Society (BCMS). I have prioritized the following five goals of my presidency and these include:
- Increase active membership of BCMS by 10%.
- Increase participation of residents and fellows within BCMS and create a new resident/fellow board membership.
- Revise bylaws to reflect current standings of BCMS.
- Create a new advocacy arm of BCMS and increase BCMS involvement in local healthcare associated issues and collaborate with MSMA at the state level.
- Publish our now bi-monthly newsletter, Prescriptions, to reflect more individual membership involvement.
At the same time membership within many organizations is gradually decreasing and BCMS is no exception. As your president, my priority is to find innovative ways to increase membership so that we physicians have a unified voice in fighting these regulations. We have selected a diverse and dynamic board membership representing both academics and private practice and we (the entire board) will be reaching out to you to get your input on how this can be accomplished.
The younger generation, be it students, residents or fellows, are the future of the organization. While there is a board membership representing medical students, we will be creating a new position for resident/fellows (pending board approval) to hear their voices and at the same time expose them to the regulatory and other issues facing medicine.
In keeping with the multiple changes within BCMS and organized medicine we will be revising our bylaws to reflect current standings (bylaws were last revised more than 20 years ago). I will be working with our past presidents and board on this.
I have a strong belief that one of the biggest assets of BCMS is its diverse membership with a wide variety of experience. I want to harness this and create an advocacy arm of BCMS (pending board approval) that will be involved in providing input on healthcare related advocacy issues both locally and at the state level. We will be collaborating with MSMA where needed and we will reach out to you to get your input on various advocacy issues.
Finally, we will be revising the Prescriptions newsletter to reflect more individual membership involvement. I request you all to send in photos/other materials of events that you have organized or are involved in for us to publish. Beverly Wilcox, our Director, will be reaching out to you so that we may share and celebrate your success with all our members.
I am looking forward to a productive 2017!
Raghav Govindarajan, M.D.,
Welcome to the website for
Boone County Medical Society
Boone County Medical Society (BCMS) was formed in 1902 by local physicians in Boone County and through the years we have absorbed Howard and Cooper Counties as well. We are a component society with Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA). BCMS is your local representation to organized medicine.
